
Getting Your PCB Curing Right with Gallium Iodide Lamps
If you’re running a PCB line, you know the drill. Photoresist curing and lithography can be a headache if your light source isn’t hitting the mark. That’s where Gallium Iodide (GaI) lamps come in. Instead of using those generic mercury lamps, these target the exact wavelengths your high-res resists actually care about. Let’s talk about the heat. These lamps pack a punch. We’ve tuned the power density so the UV gets deep into the resist without frying your substrate. But here is the catch: you have to be strict with your ballast settings. If you push too much voltage through these tubes, you’ll kill the lifespan and mess up the spectral output. And please, don’t skimp on the cooling. These things get hot. Really hot. If your conveyor is moving slowly, you need a cooling system that actually works, otherwise, you’re just going to end up with warped boards. The build quality (why it lasts) We use high-purity silica glass for the envelope because it lets the UV through without a fight. More importantly, it stops “solarization”—that annoying clouding effect that happens over time. We also tweaked the electrodes to stop sputtering. It keeps the tube clear, which means you aren’t replacing them every five minutes. Installation is the easy part. We use standard footprints, so these are basically drop-in replacements for most UV tunnels. You can swap a dead tube and get back to work without having to rip out the wiring in your entire rack.
